SeacoastOnline.com: Evergreen clauses should be optional
The New Hampshire Senate on Tuesday is set to tackle what could be a significant step toward reforming the cost of government personnel by looking to eliminate the mandated “evergreen” clause.
The evergreen clause is a state law requiring an automatic extension of public employee contracts after their expiration and through what can be prolonged negotiations.
The state should not be mandating this. Leave it up to the individual cities and towns to make that choice.
This is also why I’m not crazy about being called a “lawmaker”. It implies that our job is to make laws, when it’s equally important to repeal those laws which hurt our economy, diminish our liberty, and have a negative impact on our our way of life.
